“Why We Create Music” tells the story of the absolute importance of music with the individuals who create it. Fifteen musicians, ranging from Bill Withers to Aloe Blacc to Lady Antebellum, sit down with the director, Michael Marantz, to discuss their labor of love, songwriting and composing. Each featured artist was asked to contribute a musical or lyrical element to a base song that Marantz composed, ultimately generating the collaborative soundtrack that plays over video footage of them in the process of writing it.

Malmo Sweden’s THIS IS HEAD releases “Repetition” EP featuring a video for “Repetition Radio” one of the 3 new versions of the song “Repetition”, which highlights the bands take on krautrock/electronic grooves within their progressive indie pop songs. With a handful of EP’s released in the US in 2013, including remixes from PRINCE RAMA, KORALLREVEN, EL PERRO DEL MAR and others, THIS IS HEAD played and a handful of choice shows in Toronto and NYC in late March 2013, and will be back in early Feb 2014. The full album, The ALbum ID will be released in North America in Feb 4 2014.

“This is Head make expansive, widescreen pop that doesn’t rely on “whoah-ohs” to convey emotion. There’s an expressive use of dynamics on the band’s new longplayer, The Album ID.” Brooklyn Vegan

” The video to their second single off the album, “Illumination!” It’s a comically-creepy look at the supernatural with music that is so infectious it’s enough to put you in a trance itself.” FILTER

“The moment just feels right for epic psych pop, doesn’t it? At least that’s what we thought when we saw the video for This Is Head’s delightfully aqueous “Time’s an Ocean.” That’s why we’re sharing it with you now. We want you to feel like you are floating gently in the ocean of time just like we do.” MTVIGGY

Strange Fruit by Lorine Chia

Strange Fruit” originally started out as a poem written by Abel Meeropel to show the racism going on in America, particularly the south. Billie Holiday then put her touch to it, and now we have a 21st century rendition thanks to the Cleveland native Lorine Chia. The mellow pianos are cut through by Chia’s distinct soulful vocals, with a vocal range that’ll give you shivers. The song is made all the more eerie by only the use of a piano and vocals with slight glimpses of futuristic sounding synths. Chia currently has a mixtape available, entitled Lorine, which you can stream and download from her Soundcloud. Lorine’s next project is a re-issue of her mixtape entitled Lorine: Redux, which is due out later this year.

Willis Earl Beal – Too Dry To Cry

Willis Earl Beal, who has one of the most interesting backstories in music, released a new one named “Too Dry To Cry.” What starts with a twangy guitar riff is quickly joined by powerful stomps and claps; by the time Beal’s firey vocals enter the picture it’s clear this isn’t like anything else you’ve heard from the Chicago native to date. With his sophomore LP, Nobody knows., scheduled to release September 10th it seems Beal really is coming into his own. Take a look at the album’s tracklist below and listen to the first single off of the project, “Everything Unwinds.”

Wonderland | A Short Form Doc on Creative Commerce

Wonderland | A Short Form Doc on Creative Commerce from Eskimo on Vimeo.

In Spring 2013 we set out for a month to make a short educational piece providing a glimpse of what it is like to work in the creative industry. The idea was born out of our own questions and struggles on how to deal with things that may seem out of your control.

The themes we decided to focus on were those of creativity, relationships, the pursuit of financial profit, and the many directions you can intentionally or unintentionally find yourself taking. We hope the short provides direction in helping others pursue their own creative and personal goals by hearing first hand experiences. Thank you to everyone involved for your transparency and willingness to be involved.

Special thanks to: Mike Berlucchi, Drew Dawson, Caleb Slain, Chuck Anderson, and Caviar Content for letting us use their LA space.

Dream Panther – “Chutes and the Ladder”

Dream Panther’s Nick Kosearas and multi-instrumentalist Greg Sheran, recently released their debut single, “Chutes and the Ladder” via Chill Mega Chill, and it’s a beautifully hazy offering with nostalgic instrumentation. There are all types of elements that peek through Sheran’s atmospheric backdrop, ultimately creating a fusion of R&B, electronica and dream pop. Self-described as “post-gangster soul wave,” Dream Panther’s sound is a refreshing combination of smooth vocals and addictive production. “Chutes and the Ladder” is the first single off their EP, Beyonce’s Child. Listen below.
