The popular Portland group formerly known as Starfucker went back to the studio to add some fresh touches to their 2009 mini-LP, Jupiter. The result is a complete re-imagining of the original — as all eight songs received brand new mixes, three more tracks were added, and the entire record was re-mastered. Jupiter is essential for any listener wanting to create (or re-live) the STRFKR dance party experience.

This full-length album will be available on CD for first time and hits stores on 11/19/13. Jupiter features the songs “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Biggie Smalls” and a remix of “Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second” – the original version was featured in ad spots for Target and helped break the band.

STRFR is currently on a 30+ date U.S. tour with most of the shows already sold out. Jupiter is also available on 180 gram vinyl.

“This spazzy quartet’s second album belies their unfit-to-fully-print name: It’s an amiable, compact collection of synth-pop fizz that lands between Gary Numan’s “Cars” and the Cars on the neo-new-wave spectrum. Starfucker’s party trick is a thriller.” – Spin

On March 8th, 2013, Snarky Puppy and a host of special guests convened at the Jefferson Center in Roanoke VA. The project was to record a series of live performances in audio and video that would bring attention and benefit to the ongoing work of the center. The Jefferson Center is a non-profit arts organization that is revitalizing a key neighborhood in Roanoke with the restoration of Jefferson High School and the renovation of the Shaftman Performance Hall. The hall brings world class music to the local community through the Music Lab, providing education and recording space for local children.

The Music Lab at Jefferson Center is working daily to pull from every social and economic class of the Roanoke community and create the next wave of real, human musicians. They host low cost or free after-school programs for any interested young people filled with visits by guest artists, private instrumental instruction, and recording training. Wafting out of the little studios and rehearsal rooms on the third floor of Jefferson Center, you can hear Afro-beat in Swahili, hip-hop in Liberian Kreyol, the blues coming from the guitar of a 13 year-old prodigy, and the undeniable sound of young musicians growing. It’s a thing that needs to be supported at all costs across this country, and by purchasing this record, you’ve done it.A portion of every sale will go to the Music Lab at Jefferson Center.

J Cole – Crooked Smile ft. TLC

I must say this particular artist has not ceased to amaze me with the humble drive and tenacity of a champ. Here J Cole shares the visuals for “Crooked Smile” featuring the beloved TLC via Born Sinner LP; previously released. The album is available on iTunes & enjoy the video below.

Finally Lost – Somepling

The next act waiting in the wings and I’m not talking about that boring and cheesy elevator music; is Somepling (Olivier Rousseaux), a French beatsmith with hip-hop influences. Somepling’s latest and most recent project is called Finally Lost. It’s a short, four-song album that represents his feelings of being restriction-free. It’s an experimental album that he tries to deviate from his comfort zone. From the quick jazz style percussion of “Melt Kownia” to the majestic “Cylatha Map”, the album is quite diverse in its sounds. Open your windows and relax to the intricate tunes of Somepling’s Finally Lost.

Drake – Hold On We’re Going Home (Bebe Rexha Cover)

In New York-based Bebe Rexha’s cover to Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home;” the song is reworked from a girl’s point of view and steers away from its hip-hop origin, moving instead towards an acoustic ballad route. The cover, which cuts at a minute and a half, is a complete rework of the tune that still manages to compliment the track’s original verses and chords, adding a smooth and sultry touch.

Squares and Alleys – Forest

Building on the success of his debut single Youth, Russian artist Parks, Squares and Alleys is one of the indie gems that is completely changing the music scene internationally. Forest is an equally dreamy affair, that’s shimmering synths, light-hearted whistling and summery guitar riffs that manage to warm every inch of the body.
