Finally Lost – Somepling

The next act waiting in the wings and I’m not talking about that boring and cheesy elevator music; is Somepling (Olivier Rousseaux), a French beatsmith with hip-hop influences. Somepling’s latest and most recent project is called Finally Lost. It’s a short, four-song album that represents his feelings of being restriction-free. It’s an experimental album that he tries to deviate from his comfort zone. From the quick jazz style percussion of “Melt Kownia” to the majestic “Cylatha Map”, the album is quite diverse in its sounds. Open your windows and relax to the intricate tunes of Somepling’s Finally Lost.

Drake – Hold On We’re Going Home (Bebe Rexha Cover)

In New York-based Bebe Rexha’s cover to Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home;” the song is reworked from a girl’s point of view and steers away from its hip-hop origin, moving instead towards an acoustic ballad route. The cover, which cuts at a minute and a half, is a complete rework of the tune that still manages to compliment the track’s original verses and chords, adding a smooth and sultry touch.

Vallejo, CA duo WeAreSkywalkers present “Cloud Kingdom”, the David McCloud-produced single from their first studio-length album, Welcome To Cloud Kingdom. WeAreSkywalkers was formed by Kid Raven & Kid Shokora a few years after they met each other in summer school. Since 2011 they’ve released ten mixtapes that range from DIY mashups/remix/remakes/originals. “WeAreSkywalkers are a collective of misfits who dig hip hop,” Raven explains. “Sometimes we rock fresh and new beats and sometimes we make ‘lazy’ mixtapes where we cop the beats of other artists, while laying down altogether fresh and original rhymes. We’re nerds, but not in the MC Frontalot/Bill Gates kinda way… instead we are nerds in that Lupe Fiasco way, nerd chic. Geeks rule the world, so the Kids have a real fighting chance to take over before too.”

Earl Sweatshirt featuring Vince Staples & Casey Veggies – Hive

Earl Sweatshirt comes through with the video for his Vince Staples and Casey Veggies-assisted new single “Hive” — a song he’s been performing during his live shows earlier this year. As usual, Earl does not disappoint when it comes to delivering bizarrely horrific imagery in order to support his wordplay. Doris, is due out August 20 while the song itself is available on iTunes now.

Sam Tiba – “Eldorado”

Paris-based collective of Sam Tiba, Panteros666, Canblaster, and Myd, have been making their way around the blogosphere like crazy in the past year or so. The latest from the collective is Sam Tiba’s release on DJ Slow’s Brussels-based label Pelican Fly, the imprint that also plays host to Cashmere Cat. The four-track The Saddest Show in Town EP (FLY011) dropped June 17 and is sweet, sensual future pop.

Stream “Eldorado”, the single from the album, below, with a moody instrumental and autotune reminiscent of #SadKanye, and wonder with us if Sam Tiba is the up-and-coming hip-hop heartthrob of the underground.

“About the EP. I wish I could write something about each track. I wish I could sum up the million influences I had in mind. But using too many words has never been an option. I composed each of the four tracks of this EP in one day each. I made them thinking of one particular girl. Someone I dreamt of. It’s not a broken heart EP. It’s more like an ode to something I’ll never have, not something I have lost. Bisous.”
