Irangeles (Iran/Los Angeles) lyricist Malkovich presents the music video for “Through The Trees”, from his new album Great Expectations, written and recorded in New York City, New Orleans, Atlanta and Los Angeles after Malkovich gave up his home and possessions to travel indefinitely. “Expectations” is produced by L.A. beatsmith Josh The Goon, best known for his work with Freddie Gibbs and DaVinci. The video was shot in Queens, New York City by Mazzi of S.O.U.L. Purpose and was edited by J Spealz. Expectations is Malkovich’s followup to his Ayatollah Presley mixtape hosted by deejay/producer House Shoes (watch the video to the Dibia$e-produced “WTF”), and videos to four Expectations tracks – “Lies” (watch), “What I Know” (watch), “Palms” (watch) and “Through The Trees” (watch) have already been released. “[Malkovich] is owning everyone in the current scene, and you better believe it,” says HitTheFloor Magazine. DJ Premier played the Great Expectations cut “Bedbugs” on the January 18 edition of his Live From Headqcourterz mixshow (listen). Great Expectations is available as a free download for a limited time.

On October 1, Supermart Produce will release the full-length album from electronica duo Bang, You’re Dead entitled Late Nights. Here, they offer the full album free until it’s Oct. 1 release. Bang, You’re Dead is a collaboration between hip-hop/EDM producer Quickie Mart and award-winning singer/songwriter Jes Hudak. Quickie hails from New Orleans and Jes from upstate NY, but they first met while living in LA when Jes was brought in to write and perform a hook on a hip-hop track Quickie was producing. That track, which featured rapper Freddie Gibbs, was the first of many collaborations that would lead to the formation of Bang, You’re Dead. Jes and Mart have created a brand-new style where strong songwriting chops meet intense electronic production, spanning genres from hip-hop to trap to downtempo to dubstep. Jes Hudak’s piano skills balance Quickie Mart’s aggressive EDM style, and their recent “Alive (Partymonster Remix)” single reached number 15 on Beatport’s dubstep charts. Last year Quickie Mart released the Space Monkey Radio EP, a collection of artist-approved dubstep remixes of songs also including rapper Freddie Gibbs, California ska-funk outfit Slightly Stoopid and singers Shyvonne and Justina which debuted at #4 on Beatport’s dubstep charts. In the last two years alone Quickie Mart has released four volumes of the Haze Diaries mixtape series with rapper Gotham Green, featuring Freddie Gibbs and Planet Asia.
